Is Surgical Ablation Right for You?
It may be, if you:
Have Afib—and you are having heart surgery
Ablation for Afib may help:30
- You live longer and feel better
- You stay out of the hospital (i.e., have fewer hospital readmissions)
- Your heart pump more strongly (i.e., have a lower ejection fraction, or EF)
- You walk faster and feel better
- You get off coumadin (i.e., you will bleed less often)
If you have persistent Afib, or long-standing persistent Afib, surgical ablation during heart surgery is more effective at making sure your Afib doesn’t recur.15-19
